ECL's D class 4-8-0 series was built in 1926 with an initial order of 5, later increased to 20. 35 more were built until 1931. Many recieved Elesco feed-water heaters and roller bearings in 1936. Those intended for the highest class express teains, such as 32, recieved these 12-wheeled tenders instead of the older 8-wheeled ones.
Specifications as of 1936 are as follows:
